The palette
Representative — directionally accurate, not exhaustive.
Bright colours look louder than your colouring warrants — they compete rather than harmonise.
Dusty, blended tones feel most "like you" in a natural way.
Warm earthy tones — rust, amber — look mismatched against your features.
Silver suits you; gold looks too warm.
Your hair, eyes, and skin are in a similar medium, cool-toned range.
Stark white reads as cold; warm cream reads as yellow — a soft greyed white is ideal.
The read
A Soft Summer is a cool-neutral, muted, medium-depth colouring: low contrast between features, cool-leaning but not starkly so, and a palette that favours dusty, blended tones — rose, sage, taupe — over anything bright, icy, or earthy.
Soft Summer sits between True Summer and Soft Autumn on the seasonal spectrum. It is defined by low chroma — features are blended and subtle — with a cool-neutral lean and medium depth. The contrast between hair, skin, and eyes is low, creating an overall impression that is soft and refined.
Undertone reads cool-neutral; depth is medium; chroma is low — the most muted of the summer family; contrast is low. The face is most flattered by dusty, cooled, and slightly greyed tones. Bright or warm colours create stark contrast; icy cool colours can read as harsh.
Those whose features blend softly and coolly — medium ash-brown to dark blonde hair, grey-blue or cool hazel eyes, and fair to medium skin with a cool or neutral undertone. The overall impression is understated and cool-toned, with no single feature commanding stark attention.
Cool-neutral. The cool lean is present but gentle — it is more obviously cool than Soft Autumn, but less dramatically cool than True Summer.
Both are muted and low-contrast. Soft Summer leans cool (rose, ashy, lavender undertones); Soft Autumn leans warm (golden, earthy undertones). Ask whether rose or peach sits more naturally on the skin.
Stark black is too heavy and too contrasting for Soft Summer. Deep charcoal, soft navy, or a very dark cool-toned plum are more harmonious alternatives near the face.
